Hometown: Louisville, KY
Undergraduate: University of Louisville
Medical School: University of Louisville School of Medicine
Future Plans: Cardiology

Bio: Dr. Ayesha Singh was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. She attended the University of Louisville as a Guaranteed Entrance into Medical School (GEMS) Scholar, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Biology with a minor in Spanish. Her interest in cardiology began early, through her work in a translational research laboratory within the University of Louisville's Division of Cardiology during high school. There, she studied the metabolic drivers of atherosclerosis and atherothrombosis, a passion she cultivated for over a decade through continued involvement in the same lab throughout high school, college, and medical school. Ayesha received her medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where she also dedicated significant time to volunteering at Have a Heart—a nonprofit cardiology clinic serving uninsured and underserved patients. This experience solidified her commitment to health equity and the care of vulnerable populations. She was thrilled to join the Trojan family for her Internal Medicine residency, where she has been honored to train alongside exceptional colleagues and faculty who share her dedication to community service, academic excellence, and scientific inquiry. Under the mentorship of Dr. David Brown, Ayesha has focused her research on chronic coronary disease, presenting her original work at multiple national and international conferences. She is the recipient of a research grant to study hypertensive emergency, has co-authored two textbook chapters in the fourth edition of Cardiac Intensive Care, and has completed several first-author manuscripts. As a chief resident, Ayesha is proud to serve as Scheduling Chief, a role in which she oversees the creation and coordination of the residency program’s complex scheduling needs. She works closely with leadership, faculty, and trainees to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, equitable scheduling across all rotations, and hopes to advance the fellowship goals of her trainees. She is also excited to serve as a 2025–2026 Teachable Moments Editorial Fellow with JAMA Internal Medicine and looks forward to continuing her trajectory toward a career in academic cardiology.

One Day in LA: If she’s not at Crypto.com Arena watching a basketball or hockey game, you’ll probably find Ayesha walking around Beverly Hills or cruising down Mulholland Drive. Her perfect LA day always includes a cup of Philz coffee and a big serving of Go Greek frozen yogurt.

Hometown: El Segundo, CA
Undergraduate: University of Alabama
Medical School: University of Miami
Future Plans: Hematology

Bio: Blake was born in Los Angeles, CA and spent his early childhood in Burbank, CA before moving to El Segundo, CA. He studied biology at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL and never missed a home football game while he was there. He then went to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine before returning to his hometown of Los Angeles for residency at USC. He particularly enjoys the diverse patient population and feeling like there is an opportunity to make a true difference in these patient’s lives. He looks forward to a career in academic hematology, and is excited to begin his academic career as chief resident.

One Day in LA: Blake would start his day at Stereoscope Coffee, in his opinion the best light roast pour-over in Los Angeles. He would then go hike in Griffith Park with his dog and stop at Mariscos Za Za Za for a ceviche lunch in Frogtown. For an afternoon happy hour, he would head over to Pitfire Pizza for the best happy hour on Sunset. He would cap off the night at L&E Oyster Bar for dinner and drinks with friends.

MICHAEL WEST, MD (he/him)

Hometown: Moraga, CA
Undergraduate: University of Michigan
Medical School: Keck School of Medicine of USC
Future Plans: Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine
Hobbies: Golf, cooking, pour over coffee, watching the Giants beat the Dodgers, bar trivia

Bio: Michael was born in Davis, CA and moved to the East Bay in middle school. He then spent four years in Ann Arbor studying Neuroscience at the University of Michigan before returning to California to attend medical school at USC. He chose to stay at USC for residency due to the diversity of training opportunities, resident autonomy, exposure to unique pathology, and the incredible faculty and residents that made it feel like home. He can’t wait to continue that tradition and give back to the program as Education Chief.

One Day in LA: Michael’s ideal day in LA would be enjoying everything Echo Park has to offer. I would go for a run in Elysian Park before stopping at Stereoscope for a pour over, Clark Street Bakery for a pastry, and the Echo Park Lake to enjoy the sun. Then I would catch a day game at Dodger Stadium followed by dinner at Tsubaki and drinks at Ototo or Bar Flores.
